Reflections - A Journey of Discovery By Kingfisher Kingfisher

A Winter Scene

Bright winter sunshine, glistening snow entwined.
The sparkling view unfolding brings joy to heart and mind.
Keen eyes search to find a wondrous natural scene,
Like giant oaks, stark naked, gone are leaves of green.

Hungry deer meander slowly to and fro, their heads held low.
They probe to seek the grass, buried under snow.
Their misty breath is visible, in icy morning air,
As heads are raised from eating, and cautiously they stare.

The silence is shattered by a solitary bird;
A large black crow is squawking, determined to be heard.
Rabbits, blackbirds, blue tits, all present on this day,
But then a jay flies into sight — the colours make my day!

Suddenly I hear footsteps crunching through the snow.
Now all this peace will disappear — it’s time for me to go.
I sense a touch of sadness, well, you know what I mean,
The time has come for me to part, from such a winter scene.
